Asphalt paving in Macungie is small-scale, careful work. The borough covers less than one square mile and had 3,257 residents at the 2020 census, up 6.0 percent from 2010. It began as Millerstown, founded in 1776 by Peter Miller, was incorporated in 1857, and was renamed Macungie in 1875 to avoid confusion with another Millerstown in Perry County.
